You can change the name of almost any object, field, or tab in Salesforce. This simple adjustment lets you continue using the terminology your users already know and helps them transition to using Salesforce. However, Salesforce Help and most pages in Setup always display the original names for standard objects, fields, and tabs.
There are two different ways to modify a field label. The method you use depends on if the field is a part of a managed package or not.
Background: About Managed Packages
A managed package is a collection of application components that are posted as a unit on Salesforce AppExchange and are associated with a namespace and a License Management Organization. Your TechnoMile Growth Suite is a managed package within your Salesforce environment.
The Field Name or API Name for a field is a key identifier for a managed package.
Determine if a Field is Part of a Managed Package
Locate the Field Name or API Name for a field to determine if it is part of a managed package. If a Name Space prefix is present, that indicates the field is included in a managed package.
A field is considered to have a namespace if you see two underscores before the field name.
EXAMPLE: TM_GovSuite__Stage__c |
In Salesforce, navigate to Setup and open Object Manager.
Select the object where the field is located. Click Fields and Relationships.
Locate the desired field. Look at the Field Name column.
This is the API Name for that field, if you see a Name Space prefix then the field is included in a managed package.
Managed Package: Modify Field Label
To modify the field label of a managed package field, follow these steps.
In Salesforce, navigate to Setup.
Search for Override.
Select the correct package where the field is located.
For this document we will show modifying the field label of Award Date. in the TM Suite package.Select TM Suite for the package.
Select Custom Field in the Setup Component.
Select Growth Opportunity in the Object.
Select Field Label in the Aspect.

The table will display all available managed package fields on the selected object. Locate the desired field and enter a field label override.

Click the Save button.
Additional Steps
If the field you are updating is on the Growth Opportunity page layout, then you will need to follow these additional steps.
TechnoMile's Growth Opportunity uses a custom page layout, and allows clients more flexibility with field labels. Due to this if you wish to update the field label of a field on the Growth Opportunity page layout, you will need to also perform the following steps for it to appear correctly for your users.
Click on the App launcher and search for Customize Growth Opp Layout.
Select the appropriate page layout.
Find the field you need to update and click on the wrench icon.
Update the field label and click Update.
NOTE
You do not need to modify the Field API Name or the View Field API values.

Click Save at the top of the screen.
Unmanaged Package: Modify Field Label
For a locally-created custom field, changing the label is pretty easy.
IMPORTANT
Unless you consider yourself a Salesforce Expert, please do not modify the Field Name (API Name). This could have a larger impact on your org, and will impact automations that use this field. It is strongly recommended you speak with TechnoMile or your services provider if you wish to change the API Name of a field.
Navigate to Setup and open Object Manager.
Select the object where the field is located. Click Fields and Relationships.
Click the desired field. On the field page, click the Edit button.

From the edit screen, you can modify the field label.

After changing the field label you will see the following warning popup.

Click Ok and click Save.
