Overview
GovSearchAI identifies and manages Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) within Task Orders and associated documents.
CUI handling is driven by the ingestion pipeline and enforced through access controls. This article explains how CUI is identified, how you access it, and what limitations currently exist.
Audience
GovSearchAI Users
Prerequisites
Ensure that you have obtained the necessary Administrator login credentials to the TM TechnoMile portal from TechnoMile Support.
View CUI Data
Go to Notices IQ and select Dashboard.
Open New Task Orders.
Identify Task Orders labeled as CUI.
Open a Task Order and go to Associated Documents.
Understanding CUI Tagging
When GovSearchAI processes Task Orders through its ingestion pipeline, it evaluates associated documents for CUI classifications.
If any document within a Task Order is identified as CUI, the system marks the entire Task Order as CUI, and applies the CUI designation to all associated attachments.
The system does not support document-level (attachment-level) CUI tagging.
For example, if an attachment (for example, a CLIN chart) is classified as CUI, all documents within that Task Order are treated as CUI, even if the remaining documents are not marked as CUI by the source system.
Access CUI Data
Default Behavior
You cannot view or download CUI documents unless access is explicitly granted.
Request Access
To gain access:
Submit a support ticket or
Contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) via email
Access is granted on a per-user basis by TechnoMile (Product/Support team).
Once granted:
Your organization controls which users have access
Typically, an Administrator will enable access for selected users within a team
Download and View CUI
GovSearchAI does not provide an in-product viewer for CUI documents. When you select a CUI document:
The system downloads the file to your local machine.
You must use a local application to view the file.
NOTE:
There is currently no option to view CUI documents within the platform interface.
Compliance Responsibility
Once you download a CUI document, you are responsible for:
Handling and storing the data
Controlling access
Complying with applicable regulations
GovSearchAI:
Controls access to CUI data
Does not control post-download handling
Known Limitations
The following limitations apply to the current release:
Limitation | Description |
|---|---|
No attachment-level tagging | One CUI document marks the entire Task Order as CUI |
No in-product viewer | Documents must be downloaded to view |
No self-service access request | Access requires a ticket or CSM interaction |
Potential over-classification | Non-CUI documents may appear as CUI due to Task Order-level tagging |
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are all documents marked as CUI when only one appears to be classified?
GovSearchAI applies CUI at the Task Order-level. If one document is classified, all related documents inherit the CUI designation.
Why do CUI documents download instead of opening in the platform?
The platform does not currently support in-product viewing of CUI documents. Download is the only available method to view the document.
Is there a risk in downloading CUI documents?
Yes, once downloaded, you are responsible for handling the data in compliance with your organization’s policies and applicable regulations.
Can I request access directly in the product?
No, you must submit a request through support or your CSM.
